Weekly Scripture Luke 15:1-7

If your reading is from a Gospel, we invite you to say/ sing the Alleluia beforehand.

Let us take some time today to respond and reflect on our theme of Inclusion.

Please pick one of the below sections to help you to respond to this week’s theme.

Modern day parable

Watch this video to reflect on how we are all different – inclusion means being open to our differences…

Reflection

Your mission this week is…
Look for someone in your community who may be on the margins, take time to make them feel included this week.

What will this look like?
What actions will you take this week to make our community more inclusive?

You might want to create your own prayer on the theme of the Inclusion, that you have been reflecting on throughout the week, or you could use the prayer below.

Prayer

God of light and truth,
you call all of us to live lives of holiness and justice.
Help us to see in one another: a heart which is tender, a mind which is humble
and a care for all people;
so that together we may build up the Body of Christ as a sign of hope and mercy for all.
We make this prayer through Jesus our Lord.
Amen.

(Adapted from a Prayer from Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales for Racial Justice Sunday 2024)

Here are some song suggestions that you could use this week

This week in school, our theme is Inclusion.
Inclusion is about welcoming everyone as a child of God, regardless of their differences. It is about creating a community where everyone feels valued and respected. We can promote inclusion by being open to others and by standing up against discrimination. We can also make sure that everyone has a voice and that everyone is included in decision making.

Conversation Starters

Use these questions to start a chat together:

  • Can you think of a time when someone made you feel included or excluded? What did you learn from that experience?
  • How do you think Jesus showed inclusion in the way He treated others?
  • What would you do if you saw someone being excluded or bullied because of their background or abilities?

Prayer

Lord God,
You have created us in Your image, each of us unique and deeply loved.
May we open our hearts to those around us —
to welcome, respect, and cherish every person we meet.

Help us, Lord, to be more inclusive in our words and actions,
so that everyone may feel Your love through the way we treat them.
Teach us to see Your face in all people —
in those who are different from us,
in those whose voices are not always heard,
and in those who long to belong.

Lord, thank You for the beautiful diversity of Your creation
and for the gifts You place within each of us.
May our school, our homes, and our community
reflect Your love and the unity of Your Spirit.

Amen.

Mission

Together, choose something to do:

  • Look for someone in your community who may be on the margins and take time to make them feel included this week.
  • Create a poster or collage where each family member contributes something representing themselves — photos, drawings, quotes, or words describing their gifts. Display it as a reminder that everyone has something valuable to offer.
  • Cook a meal inspired by different cultures or invite a neighbour/friend from a different background to share a meal.

Our rewritten parable – the excluded group are Refugees, to help them and show healing you could stand up for them by befriending them and showing them kindness. In return for helping them they will help other refugees passing on the kindness you have shown.
Eg taking them into your home to provide them support whilst they find a permanent home.

People that are shy and nervous, help them by smiling at them, sitting with them.
Someone who maybe sad, help them by comforting them, and offer to help them.
People who are getting bullied, talk to them, not leave them out. support them

I Columba

In I Columba this week we have made a flower from individual petals. The petals contain a prayer for inclusion or a suggestion of how we can include others. We will join all the petals to make a flower.
