Sunday Gospel Reading Matthew 13:24-43
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew
Glory to you O Lord
He put another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field, but while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away. So when the plants came up and bore grain, then the weeds appeared also. And the servants of the master of the house came and said to him, ‘Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have weeds?’ He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ So the servants said to him, ‘Then do you want us to go and gather them?’ But he said, ‘No, lest in gathering the weeds you root up the wheat along with them. Let both grow together until the harvest, and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, Gather the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.’”
He put another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field. It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.”
He told them another parable. “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened.”
All these things Jesus said to the crowds in parables; indeed, he said nothing to them without a parable. This was to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet:
“I will open my mouth in parables;
I will utter what has been hidden since the foundation of the world.”
Then he left the crowds and went into the house. And his disciples came to him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field.” He answered, “The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man. The field is the world, and the good seed is the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, and the enemy who sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the close of the age, and the reapers are angels. Just as the weeds are gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at the close of the age. The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all law-breakers, and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.

Prayer Theme Scripture John 2:1-12
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John
Glory to you O Lord
On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples. When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”
Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. And he said to them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.” So they took it. When the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.” This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him.
After this he went down to Capernaum, with his mother and his brothers and his disciples, and they stayed there for a few days.

Let us take some time today to respond and reflect on our theme of Celebration.
Please pick one of the below sections to help you to respond to this week’s theme. Let us know how your form gets on in the comments below.
Celebration
How many things worth celebrating can you name in two minutes?
Call out ideas while one person keeps count – let us know in the comments how many you came up with.
Here are some ideas….
- Finishing exams
- Friendships
- Birthdays
- Sporting achievements
- Learning something new
- Family
- Sunny days
Celebrate the small wins…
Celebration is a joyful way of recognising God’s goodness and the many blessings He gives us each day. It reminds us to give thanks for our achievements, the gifts of others, and the special moments we share as a community. When we celebrate with grateful hearts, we grow in joy, strengthen our faith, and encourage one another to continue doing our best.
C – Care
Celebration begins with care. When we care for others, we recognise their efforts, successes, and unique gifts. Celebrating together shows that we value one another and are grateful for the kindness, friendship, and support we share.
A – Achieve
Celebration gives us the opportunity to recognise achievements, both big and small. By celebrating our successes and learning from our challenges, we thank God for the talents He has given us and are encouraged to keep growing, learning, and doing our best.
R – Respect
Celebration reminds us to respect and appreciate the gifts of every person. When we celebrate the successes of others with kindness and humility, we build a community where everyone feels valued, included, and encouraged to shine.
E – Encourage
Celebration inspires us to encourage one another. Offering congratulations, recognising someone’s hard work, or sharing in another person’s joy helps spread happiness and hope. By celebrating together, we reflect God’s love and create a school community filled with joy, gratitude, and encouragement.
Here are some song suggestions that you could use this week
This week in school, our theme is Celebration.
A celebration is when we come together to rejoice in the things that are good. It is a time to give thanks to God for all his blessings and to recognise what he’s given to us in love. We should always look for things we can celebrate, and through our celebrations, we can share happiness and joy
with others
Conversation Starters
Use these questions to start a chat together:
What is something our family has celebrated recently, and why was it important to us? How does celebrating birthdays, achievements, milestones, acts of kindness, or moments when someone overcame a challenge together make the occasion even more special?
What blessings from God do we sometimes forget to celebrate in our everyday lives?
Think about the simple gifts we often take for granted, such as family, friends, good health, opportunities to learn, or time spent together.
What is one thing we can celebrate about each member of our family this week?
Take turns sharing something you admire or appreciate about one another. How does recognising each person’s unique gifts help us grow in love, gratitude, and strengthen our family as a community?
Prayer
Next time you have a family celebration, try this prayer…
God, fill this celebration with joy, laughter, and gratitude.
May this moment become a reminder of Your love and faithfulness.
Amen.
Mission
Together, choose something to do:
- Choose one person in your family or community to celebrate this week. Write them a note, make them a card, or simply tell them why you are grateful for them and the difference they make in your life.
- As a family, spend five minutes each evening sharing one thing you are thankful for that day. End by saying a short prayer thanking God for His blessings and asking Him to help you notice the joys in each new day.
- Plan a simple family celebration—a special meal, a walk, a games night, or sharing a favourite dessert. During your time together, talk about something each family member has achieved or is proud of this year, and thank God for the gifts and opportunities He has given you.
