Hello everyone, and welcome back to CTK Pray.

The prayer theme for this week is Respect (Week 28 in the Season of Ordinary Time – Year A)

Please choose one of these Grace prayer to say at the start of afternoon registration.

If your form has not sent us their ideas yet, please get them to us this week – this could be an email from your form tutor or your ideas written on a piece of paper…

The new school grace will be here after half term….

  • We give you thanks, Almighty God,
for our food and all your gifts
    which we have received
    through Christ our Lord. Amen
  • Lord our God, we thank you for the bread you give us. Help us to share what we have with those who are most in need. Bless us with generosity and justice. Amen.
  • Father of mercy,
we praise you and give you glory
for the wonderful gifts you have given us:
for life and health, for faith and love,
and for this meal we have shared together. Amen
  • Father, for our food
we thank you, and for our joys:
help us to love you more. Amen

The chapel is open most break and lunch times, we would love to see you!

Retreat for Prayer reps and Chaplaincy Team – Friday 16th October – you will receive an invitation to this event.

Every prayer time begins with us gathering together.
To help you to focus, you might dim the lights, light a candle or move a cross or religious object to the front. You might like to play this instrumental music to help create a calm atmosphere.

Choose someone to lead your prayer time.

As we begin this time of prayer together, we invite you to join in making the sign of our faith:
All: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Turn over the new page in the Extra-Ordo-Nary flip book.

Read the theme and talk about what this word means to you as a form or in pairs.

As a Catholic community, how should we treat each other and why?

Lord

We thank you for this day.
Please help us to respect and tolerate everyone. Help us to cooperate, be helpful and listen. Help us to be kind and patient with one another and to always show respect.

We ask this through Jesus’ name

Amen

We finish this time of prayer together, by making the Sign of the Cross.
All: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

A reading from the book of Leviticus

“Show respect for old people and honor them. Reverently obey me; I am the Lord.

“Do not mistreat foreigners who are living in your land. Treat them as you would an Israelite, and love them as you love yourselves. Remember that you were once foreigners in the land of Egypt. I am the Lord your God.

“Do not cheat anyone by using false measures of length, weight, or quantity. Use honest scales, honest weights, and honest measures. I am the Lord your God, and I brought you out of Egypt. Obey all my laws and commands. I am the Lord.”

The Word of the Lord
Thanks be to God

This reading from the Old Testament/Hebrew Bible reminds us that respect is about recognising the dignity and value of every person. We are called to respect older people, welcome those who may feel like outsiders and be honest and fair in the way we treat others. As a Catholic community, our respect should not depend on who someone is, where they come from or what they can offer us. We are called to treat everyone with the same dignity, kindness and fairness that we would want for ourselves.

Spend some time reflecting either as a form or individually…

How do I show respect to people who are different from me or who I don’t know well?

Are there times when I treat some people with more respect than others?

Let us pray…

Gracious God,

Help us to see the dignity and value in every person.

Teach us to treat others with kindness, fairness and respect,
especially those who may feel different, left out or overlooked.

Guide us to follow the example of Jesus
and show respect to everyone we meet.

Amen.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit Amen.

Leader: As we begin this time of prayer together, we invite you to join in making the sign of our faith:
All: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Let us take some time today to respond and reflect on our theme of Respect.

As a form, think about what respect looks like in school – how should we treat everyone who is part of the school community including our peers and all of the staff – teachers, TAs, kitchen staff, site team, cleaners, visitors….

In your planners on p61, write down who you are going to show respect to or how you are going to do this.

An Unexpected Lesson in Respect

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen

Every prayer time begins with us gathering together.
To help you to focus, you might dim the lights, light a candle or move a cross or religious object to the front. You might like to play this instrumental music to help create a calm atmosphere.

Leader: As we begin this time of prayer together, we invite you to join in making the sign of our faith:
All: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

This week, we are invited to reflect on the theme of Respect and how we can show that in our school community using our school mission.

For example..

  • C – Community: Notice someone in your form who might be left out and make an effort to include them.
  • A – Achieve: Set yourself a goal for showing respect this week such as listening more carefully or responding positively when challenged.
  • R – Respect: Choose one way your form can show greater respect for each other and put it into practice this week.
  • E – Encounter: Take a moment to recognise the dignity and worth of someone you might normally overlook.

Your mission is to think of your own version of this (you can use the one above to help you) and to write this on your Form Time Mission poster. Display this on your form board so that everyone can see it. Try to follow these missions throughout the week.

Closing Prayer

During the month of October, we turn to Mary to ask her to pray for us.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen

Here are some song suggestions that you could use this week …

How Great Thou Art (Until That Day) – Matt Redman, Chris Tomlin, Hillary Scott, TAYA & Friends
At the Name of Jesus (Lyric Visualiser) – One Hope Project

This week in school, our theme is Respect.

Respect is essential for all people. When we respect others, we are acknowledging their worth and dignity. We are also showing them that we value their opinions and feelings. Respect is a key ingredient in building strong relationships, and it is essential for creating a just and peaceful world

Conversation Starters

Use these questions to start a chat together:

  • What does respect look like in everyday life?
  • How can we show respect when we disagree with someone?
  • Who do you think deserves our respect and why?

Prayer

Lord

We thank you for each day.
Please help us to respect and tolerate everyone. Help us to cooperate, be helpful and listen. Help us to be kind and patient with one another and to always show respect.

We ask this through Jesus’ name

Amen

Mission

This week, practise showing respect at home or when you are out.

Show respect at home: Choose someone in your family and make a deliberate effort to show them respect this week. This could mean listening to them properly, helping out or recognising something they do for you.

Respect those around you: As a family, be aware of how you treat the people you encounter this week. Look for opportunities to be patient, considerate and respectful, particularly when you might normally overlook someone.

Respect shared spaces: Think about the places you use as a family, such as your home, school, church or local community. Choose one way to take greater responsibility for looking after a shared space this week. Leave it better than you found it.
