Sunday Gospel Reading Matthew 13:1-23
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew
Glory to you O Lord
That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the sea. And great crowds gathered about him, so that he got into a boat and sat down. And the whole crowd stood on the beach. And he told them many things in parables, saying: “A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them. Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and immediately they sprang up, since they had no depth of soil, but when the sun rose they were scorched. And since they had no root, they withered away. Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. Other seeds fell on good soil and produced grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. He who has ears, let him hear.”
Then the disciples came and said to him, “Why do you speak to them in parables?” And he answered them, “To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. For to the one who has, more will be given, and he will have an abundance, but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. This is why I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. Indeed, in their case the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled that says:
“‘You will indeed hear but never understand,
and you will indeed see but never perceive.
For this people’s heart has grown dull,
and with their ears they can barely hear,
and their eyes they have closed,
lest they should see with their eyes
and hear with their ears
and understand with their heart
and turn, and I would heal them.’
But blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear. For truly, I say to you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.
“Hear then the parable of the sower: When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown along the path. As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy, yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away. As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. As for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.”

Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ
Prayer Theme Scripture 1 Thessalonians 5:12-22
A reading from the first letter of St Paul to the Thessalonians
We ask you, brothers, to respect those who labour among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves. And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the faint-hearted, help the weak, be patient with them all. See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies, but test everything; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil.

Let us take some time today to respond and reflect on our theme of Gratitude
Please pick one of the below sections to help you to respond to this week’s theme. Let us know how your form gets on in the comments below.
Our Lady of Lourdes
Students from Christ the King have now arrived safely in Lourdes!
As we reflect on the gift of gratitude, let us give thanks for their safe journey and for the opportunity they have to grow in faith at this special place of pilgrimage. We keep them in our prayers, asking that their time in Lourdes will be filled with hope, peace, and many blessings.
Keep an eye out to see if you can spot them on the live stream!
While our students pray in Lourdes, join them by praying a Hail Mary for all those who are sick, lonely, or in need of hope, asking Mary to bring them comfort and peace.
An experiment on Gratitude
Watch this experiment on Gratitude and discuss, as a form or in pairs, your thoughts on the video and what you can take away from it
During this week, we have reflected on the importance of gratitude. Gratitude helps us recognise the many blessings God has given us and encourages us to appreciate the kindness, love, and support we receive from others. When we take time to give thanks, our hearts become more joyful, generous, and aware of God’s presence in our lives. Living with gratitude helps us grow in faith and strengthens our relationships with God and one another.
C – Care
Gratitude begins with care. When we appreciate the people who care for us, we are inspired to show kindness and compassion in return. By caring for others and recognising their value, we express our thankfulness through our actions.
A – Achieve
Gratitude encourages us to make the most of the gifts and opportunities God has given us. When we use our talents wisely and work hard, we show our appreciation for His blessings and strive to make a positive difference in the world.
R – Respect
Gratitude helps us to respect others by recognising the unique gifts and qualities God has given each person. When we treat everyone with dignity, listen carefully, and value their contributions, we create a community where thankfulness and kindness can flourish.
E – Encourage
Gratitude inspires us to encourage others. A kind word, a simple thank you, or recognising someone’s efforts can brighten their day and remind them that they are valued. By encouraging one another, we share God’s love and help build a joyful, supportive community.
Here are some song suggestions that you could use this week
This week in school, our theme is Gratitude
Gratitude means recognising and giving thanks for the many blessings we receive each day. Everything we have is a gift from God, from the people who love and care for us to the opportunities we are given to learn, grow, and serve others. When we choose to be thankful, we become more aware of God’s goodness in our lives and are inspired to share that goodness with those around us. A grateful heart helps us to live with joy, kindness, and generosity.
Conversation Starters
Use these questions to start a chat together:
- What are three things each member of our family is thankful to God for today?
- How can showing gratitude change the way we treat the people around us?
- What is one way our family can say “thank you” to someone who has helped or cared for us this week?
Prayer
Father,
Thank You for the many blessings You pour into our lives each day.
Thank You for our family, our friends, our school, and for all those who care for us.
Help us to notice the gifts You have given us, even in the small moments, and to always have grateful hearts.
Teach us to show our thankfulness through kindness, generosity, and love, so that others may see Your goodness through us.
May we never take Your blessings for granted and always remember to give You thanks.
Amen.
Mission
Together, choose something to do:
- As a family, create a gratitude jar. Throughout the week, write down something you are thankful for each day and read them together at the end of the week.
- Think of someone who has made a difference in your life, such as a teacher, neighbour, friend, or family member. Write them a thank-you note or tell them how much you appreciate them.
- At the end of each day this week, take turns sharing one thing you are grateful for and thank God together in prayer for His many blessings.
