Prayer
Lord God,
When we open the Bible, quiet our hearts and minds.
Send your Holy Spirit to help us understand your Word.
Teach us to listen, to learn, and to live what we read.
May your Word guide our choices, strengthen our faith,
and help us to love others as Jesus did.We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Take a quiet moment now to reflect on the word Scripture and what it means for you in your life today.
Below you will find this week’s Gospel reading from Sunday’s mass and another piece of scripture on our prayer theme.

Sunday Gospel Reading Matthew 4:12-23
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew
Glory to you O Lord
Now when he heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew into Galilee. And leaving Nazareth he went and lived in Capernaum by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali, so that what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled:
“The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali,
the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles—
the people dwelling in darkness
have seen a great light,
and for those dwelling in the region and shadow of death,
on them a light has dawned.”
From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
While walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Immediately they left their nets and followed him. And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.
And he went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people.

Prayer Theme Scripture Matthew 7:20-27
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew
Glory to you O Lord
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”

Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ

Reflection
Pick one of the songs in the music tab to listen to.
As individuals or as a form, reflect on one or more of the following questions:
- Jesus Christ often taught through Scripture and fulfilled God’s word through the way he lived.
- What does Scripture teach us about who Jesus is, and how can reading the Bible help us understand how God wants us to live in our everyday lives, especially at school?
- Reading Scripture is not just something we do on our own, but something we can explore and reflect on together.
- What does it mean to read, listen to, and learn from Scripture as part of a group, and how can sharing Bible stories and teachings help us encourage one another to make good choices and do what is right?
- Scripture calls us to love others, act justly, forgive, and show kindness.
- How can we put Scripture into action this week by living out what we read in the Bible through our words, attitudes, and actions in our school or wider community?
In the comment section below…
Answer one of these questions together as a form.
Scripture is the story of God’s love for us. It guides us, strengthens us, and helps us grow as followers of Jesus. This week, let Scripture shape your thoughts, choices, and relationships.
C – Care
Scripture teaches us to care for others the way Jesus did. This week, look for ways to show care through small acts of kindness and compassion.
A – Achieve
God calls us to grow and use our gifts wisely. As you read Scripture, ask God to help you become the best version of yourself. This week, set a goal to achieve something that reflects your gifts.
R – Respect
Scripture reminds us to treat everyone with dignity and love. This week, practice respect through your words and actions.
E – Encounter
Scripture invites us to encounter God, and we can help others experience that too. This week, look for ways to share God’s love and help someone else encounter Him through your actions and words.
You might like to create your own prayer on the theme of Scripture that you have been reflecting on throughout the week, or you could use the prayer below.
Prayer
Lord, as I read Your word, please help me to know, love and understand You better.
Help me to recognise how You want me to apply Your word to my life.
Amen.
Here are some song suggestions that you could use this week
This week in school, our theme is Scripture.
Scripture is the Word of God. It is a collection of sacred writings that tell the story of God’s love for humanity. As we read scripture, we learn about God’s plan for our lives, and we are inspired to live a life of faith. Scripture can also be a source of comfort and guidance in difficult times and it speaks to us throughout our lives.
Conversation Starters
Use these questions to start a chat together
- Is there a Bible story or verse that has stuck with you, and why do you think it made an impact on you?
- Can you think of a time when a Bible story or message felt relevant to something happening in your life?
- Where or when do you feel most open to hearing Scripture – at church, at school, at home, through music or prayer?
Prayer
Lord, as I read Your word, please help me to know, love and understand You better.
Help me to recognise how You want me to apply Your word to my life.
Amen.
Mission
Together, choose something to do:
- Pick a short verse together. Then each person chooses one real-life way to live it out this week.
- Examples:
- “Be quick to listen, slow to speak.” (James 1:19)→ Practice listening without interrupting
- “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” (Luke 6:31)→ Be intentionally kind to someone
