Prayer
Lord Jesus,
You are our light and our guide.
Bless us with the gift of prudence,
so we may see clearly what is good and true.Help us to pause and reflect before we act,
to listen to Your voice in our hearts,
and to make choices that lead us closer to You.May our words and actions show wisdom and kindness,
and may we always choose the path of love.We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Take a quiet moment now to reflect on the word prudence and what it means to you.

Sunday Gospel Reading Luke 16:19-31
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke
Glory to you O Lord
There was a rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. And at his gate was laid a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover, even the dogs came and licked his sores. The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried, and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side. And he called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.’ But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner bad things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not do so, and none may cross from there to us.’ And he said, ‘Then I beg you, father, to send him to my father’s house— for I have five brothers—so that he may warn them, lest they also come into this place of torment.’ But Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.’ And he said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’ He said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead.’

Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ
Weekly Scripture Proverbs 22: 1-4
A reading from the book of Proverbs
A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches,
and favour is better than silver or gold.
The rich and the poor meet together;
the Lord is the maker of them all.
The prudent sees danger and hides himself,
but the simple go on and suffer for it.
The reward for humility and fear of the Lord
is riches and honour and life.
The Word of the Lord
Thanks be to God
If your reading is from a Gospel, we invite you to say/ sing the Alleluia beforehand.
Let us take some time today to respond and reflect on our theme of Prudence.
Please pick one of the below sections to help you to respond to this week’s theme.
Think about these choices – what would Jesus do?
Prudence means using good judgment, taking time to think before acting, and asking, “What would Jesus do?” It’s about making choices that are wise, not just quick or easy.
In pairs or small groups, discuss:
- What are the possible consequences of acting without thinking?
- What would a prudent response look like?
- How might Jesus guide this choice?
- A friend shares a secret about someone else — do you pass it on?
- You’re encouraged to join in making fun of a classmate — how do you respond?
- You’ve got homework due but also want to spend time with friends — what do you choose?
- You post something online that could hurt someone’s feelings — do you delete it or leave it?
- A teacher or parent gives advice you don’t agree with — how do you react?
In the comment section below… tell us how you got one with these choices – are some easier than others? Does it help to think ‘What would Jesus do?’
Watch this video about how to make the right choice
After you have watched the video, in the comment section below write something about this video that really stood out to you.
Reflection
Take some time to reflect and listen to the music as you think about the following questions:
- Can you remember a time when stopping to think before acting helped you make a better choice?
- How do you decide what is the right thing to do when there are many options?
- In what ways can prayer or reflection help guide your choices in school and at home?
Pick one of the songs in the music tab to listen to as you reflect on these questions.
In the comment section below… answer one of these questions as a form.
Your mission this week is…
when faced with a difficult decision this week,
think about what Jesus would do.
Talk as a form about what this might look like.
You might want to create your own prayer on the theme of Prudence, which you have been reflecting on throughout the week, or you could use the prayer below.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
You bless us with freedom to choose each day.
Grant us prudence,
so we may use this freedom wisely.Teach us to look beyond what feels easy,
to consider the consequences of our choices,
and to seek what leads to peace and goodness. When we face pressure or confusion,
remind us to turn to You in prayer,
trusting that Your Spirit will guide us.Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Here are some song suggestions that you could use this week
This week in school, our theme is Prudence.
Prudence is the virtue of sound judgment, making wise decisions based on reason and faith. It’s about taking the time to think before we act, considering the consequences of our choices, and seeking guidance from God and wise counsel. Prudence helps us navigate life’s complexities,
discern God’s will, and make choices that align with our values and beliefs.
It’s a key virtue for living a life of integrity and purpose.
Conversation Starters
Use these questions to start a chat together:
- Can you think of a time when taking a moment to stop and think before acting helped you make a better decision?
- How can we tell the difference between being careful and being fearful when making choices?
- What are some ways we can ask God to help us make good decisions as a family? Who else can we turn to?
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for guiding our family with Your love and wisdom.
Help us to think carefully before we act,
to make choices that are good, kind, and right.
Give us the courage to pause, reflect, and seek Your guidance
and the wisdom to listen to one another.
May our words and actions always reflect Your truth and love.
Keep our hearts open to learning from our mistakes
and our minds focused on what is best for each other and for You.
Amen.
Mission
Together, choose something to do:
- As a family, choose something to do together and take a few minutes to talk about the best ways to do it. Then decide together, act carefully, and later talk about how it went.
- Make a poster with the phrase ‘What Would Jesus Do?’ on it and look at it whenever you need to make a decision this week – use it to focus everyone to act with love, compassion, and righteousness.
