Prayer
Prayer
Loving God,
You are with us in every season of our lives.
Teach us to slow down and trust in Your timing,
even when we feel rushed, restless, or unsure.Help us to wait with hope,
to listen with calm hearts,
and to treat one another with gentleness and understanding.May moments of waiting this week draw us closer to You,
and help us to grow in peace, strength, and patience. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Take a quiet moment now to reflect on the word patience and what it means to you.
Below you will find this week’s Gospel reading from Sunday’s mass and your weekly scripture on the prayer theme, that can also be found in your planner.

Gospel Reading Luke 15:1–10
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke
Glory to you O Lord
Now the tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to hear him. And the Pharisees and the scribes grumbled, saying, “This man receives sinners and eats with them.”
So he told them this parable: “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.’ Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.
“Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and seek diligently until she finds it? And when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbours, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin that I had lost.’ Just so, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

Weekly Scripture James 5:8-9
A reading from the letter of St James
You also must be patient. Keep your hopes high, for the day of the Lord’s coming is near.
Do not complain against one another, my friends, so that God will not judge you.

Thanks be to God
If your reading is from a Gospel, we invite you to say/ sing the Alleluia beforehand.
Let us take some time today to respond and reflect on our theme of Patience.
Please pick one of the below sections to help you to respond to this week’s theme.
Read about St Monica, the patron saint of patience
St Monica is remembered as the Patron Saint of Patience because of her steady faith and constant prayer, especially for her family.
Monica’s life was not easy. She was married to Patricius, a man with a bad temper who was not a Christian, and she also lived with a difficult mother-in-law. Instead of arguing or giving up, Monica stayed patient and prayed for them every day. In time, both her husband and mother-in-law became Christians.
Her biggest challenge, though, was her son Augustine. He was clever but lived a wild life and turned away from Christianity. Monica spent years praying and fasting for him, never losing hope, even when things looked hopeless. She followed him across countries, still trusting God would change his heart.
At last, her prayers were answered. When Augustine was 29, he was baptised by St Ambrose in Milan. He went on to become one of the greatest saints and teachers of the Church.
St Monica’s story shows that real patience is more than just waiting—it’s holding onto hope, even when it’s hard. Through her example, we learn that patient and faithful prayer can lead to amazing change.
In the comment section below… tell us how the life of St Monica can inspire us today.

Patience can often be about allowing yourself to have a time of peace and quiet. Life can seem overwhelming and busy at times; we are called to have patience and trust in God.
After you have watched the video, in the comment section below write something about this video that really stood out to you.
Reflection
Take some time to reflect and listen to the music as you think about the following questions:
- How can patience help you grow closer to God?
- Who inspires you to be more patient in your daily life?
- Can you think of a time when you needed patience, and how it helped you or someone else?
Pick one of the songs in the music tab to listen to as you reflect on these questions.
In the comment section below… answer one of these questions as a form.
Your mission this week is to…
When you have to wait for something this week, use the time to pray for the virtue of patience.
You might want to create your own prayer on the theme of Encounter, which you have been reflecting on throughout the week, or you could use the prayer below.
Prayer:
Loving God,
Give me a patient heart
when things don’t happen as quickly as I want,
when people annoy or upset me,
and when life feels difficult.
Help me to trust in Your timing,
like St Monica did,
believing that change and hope can come
through prayer and faith.Teach me to wait with peace,
to listen before I speak,
and to keep loving others,
even when it’s hard.Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Here are some song suggestions that you could use this week
This week in school, our theme is Patience.
Patience is about waiting and trusting in God at work in our lives. Patience is often difficult to practice especially when we are used to having everything on demand. Learning to be patient can help us to be more content and to be at peace when situations are outside our control.
Conversation Starters
Use these questions to start a chat together:
- Has anyone been patient with you recently? How did that make you feel?
- Can you think of someone who shows great patience? What do they do that makes them a good example?
- How can we practise patience as a family—at home or on journeys?
- Can waiting for something sometimes make it more special when it finally happens?
Prayer
Teach us to be patient in our words and actions.
Help us to stay calm when things are hard,
to wait with hope, and to trust in Your timing.
May our patience bring peace to those around us.
Amen.
Mission
Together, choose something to do:
- Find out about St Monica, the patron saint of patience.
- Play a board game together, showing patience while you wait your turn.
- Plant some bulbs in the garden – you’ll have to wait until spring for them to grow.
