CTK – JOY – Prayer Resources
Hello everyone, welcome back to CTKPray. The prayer theme for this week is JOY.
Joy is a feeling of great happiness and pleasure. It is a positive emotion that help us to overcome sadness and despair. In the season of Advent, we rejoice in the coming of Jesus Christ. We know that he is the source of all joy, and we celebrate his birth with great joy.
This Sunday we celebrated the Churches new year as we enter into year C. This week is the first Sunday of Advent.
Advent is a special time in the Catholic Church that happens during the four weeks before Christmas. It’s a season of hope and preparation as we get ready to celebrate the birth of Jesus, our Savior.
During Advent, we light candles on an Advent wreath—one for each week. Each candle represents something important: hope, peace, joy, and love. The colors of the candles (purple and pink) remind us to pray, to wait patiently, and to be joyful because Jesus is coming.
It’s like preparing your heart and soul for a big celebration—just like you might clean your house and decorate for a holiday, Advent helps us “decorate” our hearts with kindness, forgiveness, and love for others.
This week we celebrate:
Sunday 15th December – Third Sunday of Advent – Gaudete Sunday
Monday – Friday – Advent weekday feria
Saturday 21th December – Saint Peter Canisius, priest and Doctor
Please note that the responses in red are for everyone to join in with.

Luke 3:1-6 Sunday’s Gospel
A reading from the Holy Gospel according Luke
Glory to you O Lord
And the crowds asked him, “What then shall we do?” And he answered them, “Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise.” Tax collectors also came to be baptized and said to him, “Teacher, what shall we do?” And he said to them, “Collect no more than you are authorized to do.” Soldiers also asked him, “And we, what shall we do?” And he said to them, “Do not extort money from anyone by threats or by false accusation, and be content with your wages.”
As the people were filled with expectation, and all were questioning in their hearts concerning John, whether he might be the Christ, John answered them all, saying, “I baptize you with water, but he who is mightier than I is coming, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand, to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.”
So with many other exhortations he preached good news to the people.

Your Sorrow Will Turn into Joy
“A little while, and you will see me no longer; and again a little while, and you will see me.” So some of his disciples said to one another, “What is this that he says to us, ‘A little while, and you will not see me, and again a little while, and you will see me’; and, ‘because I am going to the Father’?” So they were saying, “What does he mean by ‘a little while’? We do not know what he is talking about.” Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him, so he said to them, “Is this what you are asking yourselves, what I meant by saying, ‘A little while and you will not see me, and again a little while and you will see me’? Truly, truly, I say to you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy. When a woman is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come, but when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world. So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you. In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.

Israel’s Joy and Restoration
Sing aloud, O daughter of Zion;
shout, O Israel!
Rejoice and exult with all your heart,
O daughter of Jerusalem!
The Lord has taken away the judgements against you;
he has cleared away your enemies.
The King of Israel, the Lord, is in your midst;
you shall never again fear evil.
On that day it shall be said to Jerusalem:
“Fear not, O Zion;
let not your hands grow weak.
The Lord your God is in your midst,
a mighty one who will save;
he will rejoice over you with gladness;
he will quiet you by his love;
he will exult over you with loud singing.
I will gather those of you who mourn for the festival,
so that you will no longer suffer reproach.

Isaiah 9:6-7
A reading from the prophet Isaiah
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon[a] his shoulder,
and his name shall be called[b]
Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of his government and of peace
there will be no end,
on the throne of David and over his kingdom,
to establish it and to uphold it
with justice and with righteousness
from this time forth and for evermore.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.

Psalm 98:4-9
A reading from the book of Psalms
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth;
break forth into joyous song and sing praises!
5 Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre,
with the lyre and the sound of melody!
6 With trumpets and the sound of the horn
make a joyful noise before the King, the Lord!
7 Let the sea roar, and all that fills it;
the world and those who dwell in it!
8 Let the rivers clap their hands;
let the hills sing for joy together
9 before the Lord, for he comes
to judge the earth.
He will judge the world with righteousness,
and the peoples with equity.

Use these videos our on the theme of “HOPE”. These videos help us to feel unity as a church and stand up for those in need.
Visio Divina, meaning “Divine Seeing,” is a form of prayer in the Catholic Church that involves contemplating religious images or art to encounter God. It is similar to Lectio Divina (sacred reading), but instead of focusing on scripture, the participant meditates on visual representations, such as icons, paintings, or stained glass. The process usually involves several steps: gazing at the image, meditating on its meaning, praying in response to what is seen, and contemplating how the image speaks to one’s life. This practice deepens spiritual insight and fosters a connection with the divine through sacred imagery.

Think of something you can do for someone else to bring them joy and find time to make it happen this week.
Heavenly Father,
In this season of Advent, we rejoice in the promise of Your Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. Fill our hearts with the joy that comes from knowing Your love, a joy that cannot be dimmed by the cares of this world.
Help us to see the beauty of Your presence in our lives and share that joy with others. As we await the celebration of Christ’s birth, may we be filled with hope, peace, and gratitude for the gift of salvation.
Thank You for the good news of great joy for all people. Let our lives be a reflection of that joy as we prepare our hearts to welcome You.
In Jesus’ name, we pray,
Amen.
