Catholic Social Teaching – putting our faith into action

During Eastertide, we celebrate the risen Jesus Christ—the ultimate testament to God’s promises and the foundation of our faith. In this joyful season, we are reminded that even when things feel uncertain, Christ’s victory over death invites us to trust in His presence. We are called to live as people of the Resurrection, letting our faith give us the confidence to make a positive impact on the world around us.

C – Community

We build a community rooted in Faith. This means supporting each other when things get tough and being a source of strength for those who feel discouraged. By looking out for one another and praying together, we show that our shared belief in Christ makes us stronger as one body.

A – Achieve

Through Faith, we can achieve more than we think possible. It gives us the resilience to keep going when school or life gets stressful, trusting that God has a purpose for our talents. Every challenge you overcome is a step forward in your journey, helping you become the person God created you to be.

R – Respect

We show respect because our Faith teaches us that every person is made in the image of God. In our school, this means valuing different opinions, standing up for those who are treated unfairly, and treating every student and teacher with the dignity they deserve as part of God’s family.

E – Encounter

During Eastertide, we seek to encounter the risen Jesus. You don’t just find Him in a book; you encounter Him when you act with courage, when you find peace in a moment of prayer, or when you see hope in a friend’s success. We meet Him whenever we choose to trust His plan for our lives.

Here are some song suggestions that you could use this week

This week in school, our theme is Faith.

Having faith can be hard. It requires us to believe in those things we can’t prove and see. St. Thomas is famous for not believing that Jesus had risen, but this reminds us all that even for Jesus’ disciples, faith wasn’t always easy. Faith is a gift from God and if we can accept it, and hold on to it, faith will
give us strength, comfort, and hope.

Conversation Starters

Use these questions to start a chat together:

  • Why do you think faith can feel difficult at times, even for people who really want to believe?
  • Thomas the Apostle struggled to believe without seeing—have you ever felt like that about something important in your life?
  • What does it mean to you to say that faith is a “gift”? Can someone choose to accept or ignore it?
  • In what ways can faith bring strength or comfort during challenging moments, and can you think of an example from your own life?

Reflection

Say the Act of Faith prayer together

O my God, I firmly believe that you are one God in three divine persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

I believe that your divine Son became man and died for our sins, and that he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe these and all the truths which the holy Catholic Church teaches, because in revealing them you can neither deceive nor be deceived.

Amen

Mission

Together, choose something to do:

Choose a simple act of service as a family—help a neighbour, volunteer locally, or donate items you no longer need. Afterwards, reflect together: how did this experience connect to your faith? Our faith isn’t just belief—it’s something lived out through our actions.

Go for a walk together and use the time to notice things in nature—trees, sky, signs of new life. Talk about how creation can inspire faith or a sense of wonder. You might pause and each share one thing that reminds you of hope or something bigger than yourselves.

As a family, come up with a list of things that help when faith feels weak such as prayer, talking to someone, reading, quiet time, helping others, listening to worship music. Write or decorate these ideas and keep them somewhere visible as a reminder.
