CTK – Scripture- Prayer Resources – W/C 27/1/2025
Hello everyone, and welcome back to CTKPray. The prayer theme for this week is Scripture.
Scripture is the living Word of God, calling us to know Jesus and live out His teachings in our daily lives. It is a journey of faith and action, where we grow closer to Christ and are equipped to share His message with others through our words, actions, and service. Through Scripture, we are invited to bear witness to God’s love and to embrace a life of commitment, humility, and compassion.
This week, let us reflect on how we can deepen our engagement with Scripture—whether by immersing ourselves in its truths, supporting others in their understanding, or living as a testament to the transformative power of God’s Word in the world.
Ordinary Time in Year C.
This week, we reflect on the theme of Scripture, the living Word of God that calls us to know Jesus and live out His teachings as members of God’s family and the Church.
Ordinary Time is a season where we focus on the life and mission of Jesus, as revealed through Scripture. It’s a time to grow in faith, deepen our relationship with God, and embrace the responsibilities of living by His Word in everyday life. Scripture invites us to walk in Christ’s footsteps, sharing His love and truth through our actions, words, and service to others.
Below you will find the weekly readings from Sunday’s mass and scriptures taken from the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament on the theme of Scripture.
If you would like to explore your own scriptures, the link below will take you to open bible which allows you to explore scripture on any theme.

First reading Neh 8:2-6, 8-10
So Ezra the priest brought the Law before the assembly, both men and women and all who could understand what they heard, on the first day of the seventh month. And he read from it facing the square before the Water Gate from early morning until midday, in the presence of the men and the women and those who could understand. And the ears of all the people were attentive to the Book of the Law. And Ezra the scribe stood on a wooden platform that they had made for the purpose. And beside him stood Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Uriah, Hilkiah, and Maaseiah on his right hand, and Pedaiah, Mishael, Malchijah, Hashum, Hashbaddanah, Zechariah, and Meshullam on his left hand. And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people, for he was above all the people, and as he opened it all the people stood. And Ezra blessed the Lord, the great God, and all the people answered, “Amen, Amen,” lifting up their hands. And they bowed their heads and worshipped the Lord with their faces to the ground.
Gospel Reading Luke 1:1-4; 4:14-21
Since many have undertaken to compile a narrative about the events that have been fulfilled among us, just as they were handed on to us by those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and servants of the word, I, too, decided, as one having a grasp of everything from the start, to write a well-ordered account for you, most excellent Theophilus, so that you may have a firm grasp of the words in which you have been instructed.
Then Jesus, in the power of the Spirit, returned to Galilee, and a report about him spread through all the surrounding region. He began to teach in their synagogues and was praised by everyone.
When he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, as was his custom. He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written:
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to set free those who are oppressed,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”And he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. Then he began to say to them, “Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.
Hebrew Bible Proverbs 4: 20-23
My son, be attentive to my words;
incline your ear to my sayings.
Let them not escape from your sight;
keep them within your heart.
For they are life to those who find them,
and healing to all their flesh.
Keep your heart with all vigilance,
for from it flow the springs of life.
New Testament Matthew 7: 24-27
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
Visio Divina, meaning “Divine Seeing,” is a form of prayer in the Catholic Church that involves contemplating religious images or art to encounter God. It is similar to Lectio Divina (sacred reading), but instead of focusing on scripture, the participant meditates on visual representations, such as icons, paintings, or stained glass. The process usually involves several steps: gazing at the image, meditating on its meaning, praying in response to what is seen, and contemplating how the image speaks to one’s life. This practice deepens spiritual insight and fosters a connection with the divine through sacred imagery.

Your mission this week is to… Find a passage from the Gospels that you’ve not read before – reflect on what it might mean to you.
Let’s take this time to renew our commitment to the Word of God, remembering that Scripture is a guide to walking in His footsteps. Just as we might pause to refocus and realign our lives, this is a time to open our hearts to God’s wisdom, embrace humility, and share His truth and love with those around us.
Heavenly Father,
We thank You for the gift of Scripture, the living Word that reveals Your Son, Jesus, and invites us to know You more deeply. Help us to embrace Your Word with faith and courage, striving each day to live according to its truths. As we journey through Ordinary Time, remind us of the extraordinary call to be guided by Your Word. Strengthen us to be faithful in prayer, diligent in study, and eager to share the Good News of Scripture with others.
Lord, guide us to live out the teachings of Your Word with hearts full of love, hands ready to serve, and voices eager to proclaim Your truth. May we grow closer to You as we bring the light of Your Word to the world and inspire others to follow You.
Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
