Hello everyone, and welcome back to CTK Pray.
The prayer theme for this week is Rosary (Week 27 in the Season of Ordinary Time – Year A)
Please choose one of these Grace prayer to say at the start of afternoon registration.
If your form has not sent us their ideas yet, please get them to us this week – this could be an email from your form tutor or your ideas written on a piece of paper…
- We give you thanks, Almighty God,
for our food and all your gifts
which we have received
through Christ our Lord. Amen
- Lord our God, we thank you for the bread you give us. Help us to share what we have with those who are most in need. Bless us with generosity and justice. Amen.
- Father of mercy,
we praise you and give you glory
for the wonderful gifts you have given us:
for life and health, for faith and love,
and for this meal we have shared together. Amen
- Father, for our food
we thank you, and for our joys:
help us to love you more. Amen
The chapel is open most break and lunch times, we would love to see you!
Sixth Form retreat – Friday 9th October, all day
Every prayer time begins with us gathering together.
To help you to focus, you might dim the lights, light a candle or move a cross or religious object to the front. You might like to play this instrumental music to help create a calm atmosphere.
Choose someone to lead your prayer time.
As we begin this time of prayer together, we invite you to join in making the sign of our faith:
All: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Turn over the new page in the Extra-Ordo-Nary flip book.
Read the theme and talk about what this word means to you as a form or in pairs.
Watch the video about how The Rosary. If you don’t have one there already, add a set of rosary beads to your prayer focus table for the month of October (there should be one in your box or send your prayer rep to the chapel to collect a set).
October is one of two months that are particularly dedicated to Our Lady – the other is May.
The Hail, Holy Queen Prayer
Leader:
Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy; hail, our life, our sweetness and our hope!
To you do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to you do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears,
Turn then, most gracious advocate, your eyes of mercy towards us;
and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary
Amen
We finish this time of prayer together, by making the Sign of the Cross.
All: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke
Glory to you O Lord
In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. And the virgin’s name was Mary. And he came to her and said, “Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!” But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and tried to discern what sort of greeting this might be. And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”
The Gospel of the Lord
Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ
When we hear this piece of scripture, we can hear the words of the Angel Gabriel which are then used in the Hail Mary prayer that we say when we pray the Rosary.
The words of the first part of the Rosary come directly from this scripture (using a different translation) and from the words of Elizabeth when Mary visited her before Jesus was born,
| Line in the Prayer | Scripture Passage | Speaker | Biblical Context |
| “Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee…” | Luke 1:28 | Angel Gabriel | The Annunciation in Nazareth |
| “…Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.” | Luke 1:42 | Elizabeth | The Visitation in Judea |
The second part of the Rosary was created by the Church over several centuries and became the prayer that we use today in the 1500s.
Let us pray…
Hail Mary, full of gracethe Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women and blessed if the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God
Pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit Amen.

Let us take some time today to respond and reflect on our theme of Rosary.
Watch the video about The Rosary.
The whole video is 11mins 20 so if you have less time watch from 2min40 – 10min for an explanation of the rosary and a chance to pray a decade together.

This week, we are invited to reflect on the Rosary and how it helps us to grow closer to Mary and Jesus. Through prayer, we can bring our hopes, worries and gratitude to God, while remembering the needs of others.
Your mission is to put the spirit of the Rosary into action:
For example..
- C – Community: Pray a decade of the Rosary for someone in your community who needs support, comfort or hope.
- A – Achieve: Take five minutes of quiet time to reflect on one mystery of the Rosary and think about what it teaches you about living your faith.
- R – Respect: Follow Mary’s example of humility and kindness. Show respect to those around you by being patient and understanding and recognising the dignity of every person.
- E – Encounter: Find a moment to pray a Hail Mary, asking Mary to help you recognise Jesus in the people you meet each day.
Your mission is to think of your own version of this (you can use the one above to help you) and to write this on your Form Time Mission poster. Display this on your form board so that everyone can see it. Try to follow these missions throughout the week.
Closing Prayer
God our Father, thank you for the example of Mary, who trusted you and followed your call with love and humility. Help us to grow closer to you through prayer and to reflect your love in all that we do. May we see the dignity of every person and treat others with kindness and respect.
Amen.
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen
Here are some song suggestions that you could use this week …
This week in school, our theme is Rosary.
As we enter October, one of the months dedicated to Our Lady, we are reminded that the Rosary is a prayer that we can all use to meditate on the life of Jesus Christ. It is a powerful tool for prayer and spiritual growth through the intercession of Mary our mother. The Rosary can help us to grow in our faith, to deepen our relationship with God, and to find peace and comfort in difficult times
Conversation Starters
Use these questions to start a chat together:
- Have you ever prayed the Rosary? What do you know about it already?
- Why do you think Mary is such an important person in our faith?
- Is there a particular moment in Jesus’ life that inspires you? Why?
Prayer
Say a Hail Mary or a decade of the Rosary together.
If this is new to you, use the video below to help guide you through the prayers. If you don’t have a rosary, you can use your 10 fingers to help you to count along…
Mission
This week, try to find time to pray the Hail Mary or the Rosary.
You could do this individually or try to make it part of your home routine.
